We are blessed at the Mere for having so many genuine and large crucian fish

    Hat Factory

I used to work at the hat factory and the slipper factory, mostly Christmas for the slipper factory. It was ladies’ side and men’s side, so we didn’t mix and we used the bridge. As the road was bad, with a bad bend, we had to use the bridge – but this was very rare we went to the men’s side.

    The Ball Game!

Shrove Tuesday, the Ball Game. They have a massive big ball, it’s about, it’s got to be about two foot wide. I actually saw one the other day, one of the old ones. It’s got to be about two foot in diameter and it’s all through the main part of town, Atherstone. All the shops get boarded up that

    BERT JEFFERY'S GARAGE

In this photo you can see our breakdown wagon, that was for fetching broken down cars and haulage vehicles. We would go and sit out here and have a tea break or our lunch – you can see the tea jug in the photo. I am on the left at the back and opposite me is Mick Tingay, next to him is Phil? And the

    A FARMING FAMILY IN ATHERSTONE

My family have always lived in this area, my dad inherited his farm from his father and he still runs it to this day in his 80s! I loved growing up on the farm with all the different chores that we had to do. Farm life is very cyclical so there was always something to look forward to in the year.
