Entwine is a suspended light installation composed of three interlinked circular forms, designed to evoke the ephemeral and emotional qualities of dreaming. Positioned overhead, the rings glow with shifting colours and patterns, drawing inspiration from the convergence of the past, present, and future - a central theme of Vivid Sydney 2025, where the work made its debut.
Made of over 160 precisely arranged LED tubes that pulse with programmed light sequences, creating moments of both subtle glimmer and dynamic bursts. These shifting illuminations echo the fragmented yet profound nature of dreams - fleeting but resonant. The three rings not only reflect separate facets of time but also how memory, perception, and hope intertwine in our subconscious to shape imagination and identity.
Accompanied by a bespoke ambient soundscape built from modular synthesisers and layered textures, Entwine immerses visitors in a multisensory experience. The sound enriches the atmosphere, enhancing the meditative and emotional depth of the visual form.
Fabricated using lightweight aluminium, the structure is engineered for flexibility and can be suspended from truss systems or existing architectural infrastructure, making it adaptable to a variety of public and outdoor environments.
Entwine continues toyStudio’s practice of combining digital design methods with physical storytelling to produce experiential, site-responsive works. Through light, sound, and form, the installation invites the public to pause, reflect, and connect - not only with the piece itself but with the dreamlike states we carry within.
